Hollywood is finally all out of ideas. 12 November 2008 at 9:45 am by Jason | 108 views

Okay, Hollywood, enough.  Just stop it already.  I didn’t say anything when you decided we needed a sequal to Dirty Dancing, I didn’t open my mouth when you thought that a live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks was a good idea, but I can’t take it any more.

Karate Kid: The Remake, starring Will Smith’s son (and produced by Will Smith)?  Do we really need this?  Was there something wrong with the ones made 20 years ago?  If that wasn’t bad enough, Hollywood has now decided to make board games into movies.  Yes, board games.  Monopoly the movie, by Ridley Scott.  From the article:

The Hasbro-Universal collaboration “Monopoly” is jumping a large number of spaces up the board.

The feature project has brought on Pamela Pettler to write the screenplay; She penned Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride,” Gil Kenan’s “Monster House” and the upcoming animated adventure “9,” produced by Burton and Timur Bekmambetov.

And Ridley Scott, who has been attached as a producer on “Monopoly” and has been mentioned as a possible director, is now officially attached to helm the project, with an eye toward giving it a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic “Blade Runner.

Oh yeah, why not, right?  If that didn’t wet your whistle, how about Battleship the movie?  Maybe Ouija Board the movie is a bit better?  I mean, did the studios learn nothing from the mess that was Clue the movie?

Sadly, I didn’t even realize how bad movies had gotten until this last weekend when Jess and I decided that we hadn’t seen anything in awhile and went out to rent one.  It took us close to an hour to even find one thing we wanted to watch (Jess was a fan of The Other Boleyn Girl), and she actually ended up having me fast forward through the movie because it was completely different from the book.

It’s just upsetting that in the day and age of High Definition televisions and Blu-ray discs, there is almost nothing good to watch.  C’mon Hollywood… wow us!  You used to do it, and I believe that if you really try, you can do it again.

So with all that said… do you have any good movie suggestions?

+ MSN and “MoneyTrack” team to protect our military By Jason 11 November 2008 at 1:33 pm 55 views No Comments

On this Veteran’s day we look back and know there are hundreds of thousands military members that are retired and active duty who have placed their lives on the line for our country as well as others. We know of the battles they have fought overseas, but many don’t realize the financial battle many face here in the states. Thankfully today, MSN Money along with “MoneyTrack” is launching a three part webisode to teach those in our military something that many don’t understand: how to watch for scams, learn about borrowing money in a financially healthy way and how to stay debt-free.

Military members and retirees, paid typically on the 1st and 15th of each month, are dealing with increased pricing of products and no pay raises, increasing family sizes and unscrupulous business practices. In military towns such as Killeen, Texas where the Army base Fort Hood is located, simply driving down the main streets show the extent of how this town has turned against the military not because service members are rich, but simply because they have a steady income and tend to have the same cash flow issues month after month. Cash advance shops advertising specifically towards military unable to make it from one payday to the next, pawn shops stating they’ll offer the highest price possible for those in the service and “easy loans here” signs are easy to spot in this town. Offering quick cash with extraordinary high interest rates allow these military members and retirees to feed their families but stay in debt for possibly years to come.

+ Congratulations, President-Elect Obama By Jason 04 November 2008 at 11:04 pm 71 views No Comments

It’s official, Barack Obama will be our 44th President.  While I might not have always agreed with the things he’s said, I am a card carrying Democrat, and I do believe that he will be good for this nation.  I am proud to have him as our new President (and to have cast my ballot for him) and I look forward to seeing what our country can do with a new man at the helm.  We now have a little over 100 days before he will take office… what will happen in George Bush’s remaining days?

The future isn’t written, but I will say, I am proud to be alive at this moment in history, for it is a very proud day for Americans everywhere.  While racism hasn’t been defeated, it has been dealt a large blow.

Now then, I must finally get to sleep!  Good night all… may tomorrow bring even more good tidings!

EDIT - Now that it’s official, enjoy (from Patrick Moberg):

+ Election Predictions By Jason 04 November 2008 at 5:34 pm 68 views No Comments

It is looking more and more like it’s unanimous that Obama is going to win today’s election (if the predictions of most all polling sites are correct), so here’s a quick look at what they’re all thinking:

Pollster.com (Obama: 291 | McCain: 142 | Tie: 105)

Electoral-Vote.com (Obama: 353 | McCain: 174 | Tie: 11)

Real Clear Politics (Obama: 278 | McCain: 132 | Tie: 128)

And even Karl Rove himself (Obama: 338 | McCain: 200 | Tie: 0)

So we only have a few hours to go… who will be right (if you note, all are very similar)?!  What are your predictions?  Do you think they’re right, or do you feel that McCain still has a chance to pull off the win?
