The Longest Horn of all… 19 July 2005 at 11:12 am by Jason | 48 views

So I checked my e-mail today so that I could clean out all the spam that normally fills it up, and I see a shiny little e-mail from a small company called “Microsoft” (you might have heard of them). Anyway, it seems they like me enough to invite me to the Longhorn Beta team! Wow! Here’s a snippet from the e-mail:

Dear Microsoft Beta Tester,We are pleased to offer you an early preview of Windows, Code-Name “Longhorn,”
by extending this invitation to join the Longhorn beta program. [...] Longhorn Beta Program participants will preview software for the next generation of Windows as well as Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
What is Windows Code-Name “Longhorn”?

The next version of Windows, Code-Name “Longhorn,” promises to be the most secure and intuitive Windows release to date. It delivers on the promise of allowing people to use their computers more effectively and confidently to achieve their goals and pursue their passions. It offers new tools to help protect the integrity of your system and your information, easier ways to find, visualize and organize your information, and provides better integration across
applications, devices and systems. [...]

Thank-you for your participation, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

The Windows Product Team

That’s just awesome… I’ve been an official Beta Tester for about 3 years now (although I tested Windows XP through Dell when I worked there) and this is my first full OS Beta! Happy happy, joy joy!

Happy happy, joy joy!Let’s see… not much else has happened, work is work… I feel like I’ve been coding this Access program forever now! My current block? I can’t figure out how to hide all the toolbars except the ones I want to be shown. Grrr!

Well, that’s all for now… time to go take my lunch break. Until next time, be excellent to each other!

+ Harry Potter and the Gross Tapeworm of Azruntibar By Jason 16 July 2005 at 7:00 pm 39 views No Comments

So, last night (to make Jess feel better), we went and sat at Borders till Midnight, waiting for the new Harry Potter book. It was pretty nice, some oddballs dressed up (see below):

So, that was going to be the end of this post, but it seems that Kisa (one of our kittens) has tapeworms (gross!!!). We had to fight all day today to give her meds, and hopefully that should fix them. Let’s just say it was horribly gross… and I never want to see it again!Okay, that’s it for now… expect more later!

+ Raise it up, and bring it on down By Jason 15 July 2005 at 7:04 pm 45 views No Comments

So, I got my second review done here at work, and they like me enough to give me another raise! Whooo! Very nice to hear, this will definitely help Jess and I save up for things we need (and for the wedding we keep delaying).

Speaking of Jess, she’s not doing too hot. She hates her job right now… enough that she wishes she’d get fired. What set it off? Her boss had written something for her to print out (500+ copies), and after having the printer break down twice (both different issues that required a repairman to come out, and her to start over each time), it turned out that her boss had miswrote something, so Jess had to re-print it all. Jess never really liked the job, but it pays very well so she tolerates it for the most part, just about once every month or so, something like this happens and it just crushes her. It’s very sad. I really want to tell her she can quit, but if she can stick it out till December, we should have enough saved for me to feel comfortable with her quitting.

Anyway, I feel like a jerk since I’m the one essentially telling her to stay at a job she doesn’t like. Also, I can handle much more work related stress than she can… so trying to make her feel better isn’t quite working. I hate seeing her like this… she just kinda spaces out, sleeps a lot, doesn’t really eat, etc. Of course the entire time I feel like crap, because I see it as mainly my fault… I’m officially making more than I ever have in my life, and I don’t feel very happy at all. All I can hope is that she recovers and can make it till Dec, then everything should be golden.

+ Pictures and other recording devices not allowed By Jason 11 July 2005 at 12:51 pm 162 views No Comments

Well, Lewis Black was funny as hell, but they didn’t allow us to bring in cameras. I had been hoping to snag a picture of him, but oh well. Jess and I were about 4 feet from the stage (the second closest table), so that was awesome.

Besides that, not much else to tell. Sunday was spent cleaning, I also cleaned up the fish tank and snapped a new picture of Levi:

I finally found a better setting on the camera. Boy that’s crisp! While I cleaned the tank I decided to change the cardboard preventing his escape to Aluminum mesh. Looks nicer and is a bit stronger.Okay, that’s all for now… back to coding!

+ Lewis Black Live By Jason 09 July 2005 at 2:49 pm 38 views No Comments

T-Minus 3 hours until I go to see Lewis Black at the comedy club out here. It’s going to be awesome… pictures will be up here if they allow us to take ‘em!
