Vandals!

Multiple apartments in our area (including at least 4 in our building) had their locks superglued so the families couldn’t get in. Right now I’m listening to one of the repairmen trying to drill through the lock of the people who live across from us (close call for us).
This really sucks… I tell you, each year this place gets worse and worse. Did I mention the dripping roof is back? Yeah, so much for it being fixed. The bright side is we finally have a new head manager and lead repair man this month, so maybe things will start getting taken care of.
Can you believe the guy has worn through 2 drill bits trying to get through our neighbor’s door? He says it’s as if they used an entire tube of glue. We really need cameras in the hallways (and outer doors that actually lock like they’re supposed to), methinks.
It’s not quite April yet, but it looks like the storms have started a day early. Not only did it rain all night, it’s looking like it’ll continue through most of today:

Now, I love storms… I really do, but some of you may remember back in October when I complained about our leaking roof. I left off with the following paragraph:
That’s right, after months of telling the management that we can hear dripping when we stand in the kitchen, and them saying they’ve fixed it, the water that’s been slowly rotting the roof broke through right next to the light on the ceiling (I’m sure that’s good for the wiring). Nice. So here I sit, missing work, waiting for the roofers and the maintenance crew to get their collective butts up here to fix this. Sigh They’d better get here soon, seriously…
Well, if soon meant “5 months later we’d still be waiting for them”, then they may get here soon. That’s right! After many calls and many excuses by the management as to why it hasn’t been fixed yet (they’re too busy, now it’s too wet, now it’s too cold, now it’s too whatever I can come up with), this is what we get this morning:

Sweet… that looks familiar (note the new crack). For those wondering, it’s white now because it got painted over… not fixed. So I wonder what the excuse will be today? “Too wet,” maybe? “Too busy,” possibly? Maybe we should just get too busy to pay rent? I wonder how well that would go over? It’s not like we’ve been forced out of our house recently because their faulty equipment started a fire, and it’s definitely not like we’ve ever had issues here before. Updates whenever they happen, perhaps next year some time.
Guess where we’ve been the past 2 hours? If you guessed “outside in the 10 degree (-3 w/ windchill) weather”, you’re right! We were all gathered up by the cops pounding on the door because there was a fire in the building. Turns out, similar to the last time this happened, it was a furnace (this time on the 2nd floor). The fire department let us back in, but they’re still downstairs trying to get it all taken care of. Here’s some pics:

The entire apartment smells like smoke now, we’re cold, Mishka is upset at being taken outside (we couldn’t get Kisa in time, sadly… yes, she’s okay, but she wouldn’t get out from under the bed!!). It’s very annoying. They’ve turned off the furnace and now one apartment is without heat (they’re moving the family). I really wish this complex would take care of their apartments instead of waiting for them to break down first.
In other news, aside from all this fun tonight, today was a great day. I bought Jess some flowers, we went out to dinner, it was just nice (until this). So, let’s leave you with a nice image, a cellphone pic of the bouquet I got for her!

Until next time!
It’s been awhile since I’ve complained about the apartment in which I live, but this morning after a pretty big rain storm I heard some weird noises coming from the kitchen. What were they? Drips… of water…

(If you notice the brown square… those watermarks are the border of the leak… looks nice, huh? The pot you see is one of 2… the other is catching water on the floor.)
That’s right, after months of telling the management that we can hear dripping when we stand in the kitchen, and them saying they’ve fixed it, the water that’s been slowly rotting the roof broke through right next to the light on the ceiling (I’m sure that’s good for the wiring). Did you guess “Water”? Well if you did, congrats! This is about the 8th time in the past 3 months that we’re without water. Reason this time? Water Heater burnt out. It’ll be hours before we have any water, and some point after that (when the electrician comes) we’ll have hot water. Yay for us.
Is it really that hard to keep water running in our apartment? They managed just fine the first year we lived there. As it is now (after 5+ “fixes”), the water (when it’s on) comes out white… looks like skim milk, has almost no water pressure, and I can’t use it in my fish tanks, cause it’s full of diatom loving silicates. ARGH!
Anyways, I needed to rant, isn’t much more I can do about it.
