These are my daily “Good to Know” links for 07/17/08 … please enjoy:

As far as an elected official in 2007 declaring he doesn't know what the word "blog" means - Good God! I don't know where to begin.
'Shawshank' in a Minute | Radar Online
The Shawshank Redemption in one minute… rapped. It's awesome, trust me on this!

A disgruntled city computer engineer has virtually commandeered San Francisco's new multimillion-dollar computer network, altering it to deny access to top administrators even as he sits in jail on $5 million bail, authorities said Monday.

Design Toscano wants you to "expect the extraordinary from your home and garden," and that includes the walking dead. Take this 13-lb. resin undead garden zombie, for example.
Obama bloats Vista by 11MB | The Register
We're very much obliged today to readers Hawkeye and Duncan Lilly for providing evidence that the Beast of Redmond's Vista is not the lean, mean fighting machine it really should be. Check out this "important" update warning for size.
Come back for more links tomorrow!!
I’ve just updated my blog to WordPress 2.6 RC1… getting close to final now (according to them, it may be out today, actually)! I missed the update over the weekend, but that’s just as well as my site was being transferred to a new server. Can you see any difference? It’s all shiny and new! Anyway, for those wanting details on the new WordPress, check it:
WordPress 2.6 Release Candidate 1 is now available. We think this is ready for release on Monday. Try out RC1 and tell us if you agree. New since Beta 3:
- Media uploader and gallery improvements
- Image caption and image editing fixes
- Press This fixes
- Ability to toggle between the flash uploader and a regular browser uploader
- Notification bubble on the Plugins menu when plugin updates are available
See the full list of changes since Beta 3.
Get RC1.
The other updates to the site is my addition of a plugin to show my current Twitter posts (see it on the sidebar). I may tweak the design somewhat to make it look better, but it’s okay for now.
That’s it regarding my site for today… I know I haven’t been updating it as much as I’d like, but I’ve been busy lately. You can always check my Swurl account for other things I’ve been up to on the web!
Nothing says fun like a last minute emergency trip, right? Well, we’re off to Texas tonight to see Jessica’s family because her mother is ill again, and while most likely it’s not life-threatening, she is worreid and has requested all family come down and see her as soon as possible. Luckily I’m feeling better now, and while not 100%, I should be well enough to make this trip without feeling too bad.
It’s a 12 hour trip and I’m going to be driving straight through… fun, eh? I’ll try and update my blog while I’m down there (bringing my spare wireless router and our laptops), but no promises as I have no idea what everyone’s plans are. One sad thing is that I used to live just 45 minutes away from where we’re going, and I don’t think I’ll be able to visit (both Jess and I have to be back to work on Monday). Oh well. The bright side of the trip is that I’ll get to see my niece, which will be nice, as we’ve yet to be able to see her (she just turned 5 months old a couple days ago).
Fun times… more when I get time!
As I’ve been re-designing the site, I’ve had to make some changes to the actual data/setting of the live blog so that it flows over nicer. If you see anything odd, it’s probably just me changing settings. Among other things, I’ve now imported my old Archive site over to the current database so I can stop maintaining two blogs. I’ve also cleaned up my blogroll/webroll/etc and will continue to make changes over the next couple weeks.
The design itself is probably about 85% completed… check out this side-by-side:

I don’t know about you, but I’d spend a lot more time browsing the site on the right versus the site on the left (I sized them the same, but the design on the left has an 800px width while the one on the right has a 1024px width). The new design also validates XHTML 1.1 (so far, so good), but to keep it that way I will have to go back and edit my old posts to change how I had been posting pictures. Not too major, but kind of bothersome.
Well, that’s all I have about this today… just figured people might get confused as I’m swapping things around and I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that the site is still changin’!
I just got around to upgrading to Wordpress 2.3.2. I tell you, I’ve just been wiped out the past few months. For those wondering, the wedding went great! I’m still working on pictures, but here’s a nice one for you to chew on:

Awww… how cute!
Yes, that’s a Christmas Tree behind us, as it was December 24th!
Work has got me constantly running… this past week has been insane as we had to rush and upgrade to Exchange 2007 (mainly because we were out of space and weren’t allowed to purchase Exchange 2003 Enterprise) and we’ve run into many a problem. Luckily it looks like I’ve finally gotten most of it under control (we run a 2 man shop here and I was responsible for about 95% of this little project) and the users are back working just as they were before.
I really need to update the look/feel of the site… maybe I’ll get to that in the coming weeks. I also have another domain I purchased for something I was looking to do as a side project, but it’s been sitting on the back burner (oh what could it be?!).
Anyway, I’m looking forward to the new year… I’m officially married, I’m going to see the Foo Fighters in concert in Feb, and I’m an uncle! What, I didn’t mention that? Jessica’s sister gave birth on Jan 17th to Miss Catherine Grace Stephen:

Adorable, isn’t she? I think she has my sense of style.
Okay, that’s enough for now… I have e-mail issues to attend! Expect more later… I won’t let this blog fade away!
