Venture Bros. Season 3 - June 1st!! 04 April 2008 at 2:04 pm by Jason 344 views

It’s official!  Straight from the horses’ mouth (or rather, Jackson Publick’s blog):

And now, the News in brief…

ITEM: The Venture Bros. will premier on June 1st.

Best.  News.  Ever.  I have been waiting for season three since the Season 2 cliffhanger.  I have been a Venture Bros fan since it was just a “special” that would air once a year or so!  Also this news made me giddy:

Somehow, in the midst of all of this, Doc and I are also expected to begin writing season 4 and producing the DVD set for the not-even-finished-yet season 3.

That’s right!  They’re not waiting for the season to finish before starting on the next this time!  Season 4 is Go!  :D

The Monarch!

Welcome back, Monarch!

+ It’s gettin’ hot in here By Jason 16 January 2007 at 8:45 am 66 views No Comments

For the second day in a row now our new server room here at work has reached over 90 degrees by the time I’ve come in (it is also the second day in a row that I’ve been called before 7:00 AM). From what we can figure, the air conditioning unit is thinking that the outside temperature (around 10 degrees) is the inside temp, and instead of cooling, is heating. Why does it even know that it is cold outside? Well it looks like someone punctured the roof when working on it and that is causing the cold air to seep down to the air unit… nice. :P

Yesterday it got so hot that one of our phone cards started to malfunction and caused about 20 people here to go without their phones till we cooled it off (canned air works wonders in a pinch). We called someone out, he puttered around for an hour or so, and called it fixed. Great. Well last night it actually got so bad that one of our servers actually failed and shut itself down… luckily we were able to get it to come up, but it never should have gotten anywhere close to that point in the first place. The only way we’re getting it to cool down now is actually having a giant fan blowing the hot air out of the room, which we have wide open… it looks ridiculous, but at least it’s working. We have a call in for people to not only fix the roof, but hopefully to disable the heating unit, period. I don’t care if it’s 40 degrees in there, I’ll wear a coat.

I swear, it better be an icebox in there tomorrow morning or heads will roll…

+ Betas all around! By Jason 21 July 2005 at 9:25 am 65 views No Comments

Wow, after a dry spell, I’m being flooded with beta tests from Microsoft! I’m currently testing the following items:

Data Protection Manager 2006
Driver Install Frameworks
Microsoft Command Shell Preview
Windows Installer Beta
Windows OneCare Live Beta
MSN Messenger Beta
Mail Beta
Windows code-named “Longhorn”
Internet Explorer 7 Beta

I love testing new products! I know, I’m odd… but I really do enjoy the testing. Here’s the list of things I’ve tested in the past:

MSN Explorer Beta
MSN Messenger Beta
Windows code-named “Whistler”
Windows 2000 SP4
Windows XP SP1
Office 11 Beta
Windows Update Beta
Microsoft Update Beta

I can’t wait to start testing Longhorn… I have my system back up at home finally (had to take apart one of my 120mm fans, wasn’t spinning and my system was overheating) and plan on partitioning about 30GB off on my main drive for the install. I honestly can’t wait!

+ Where There’s Smoke, There’s (Not) Fire By Jason 28 June 2005 at 4:06 pm 183 views 2 Comments

So, to start… I’m sure those of you who read my Blog noticed there wasn’t a “Part 2″ to my nice day. Well, that’s because we got in late after going shopping and to the movies. Overall, it was a great weekend, in fact, a fish I had long thought was dead, turned up alive and well in my tank (he has been missing for over a month)! Yes, my Bulldog Pleco is alive and well living in a pot in my aquarium! Now I just hope that Levi (you’ll remember him from a previous entry) doesn’t try to kill him. Okay, okay… enough about the weekend, I need to complain.

So, Monday started out nice, we went to work, and decided to come home for lunch. Upon opening the door I noticed something was wrong… the apartment was filled with smoke, and I had been pretty sure I hadn’t left a smoke machine running while we were away. Now it wasn’t a normal smoke, it had a “burnt electronic” smell to it. As Jess (my fiancée) gathered up the cats and dialed 911, I checked the house out. The air conditioning was off, smoke was in every room, the kitchen lights weren’t working… but I couldn’t figure out where the smell/smoke was coming from.

Long story short, we had 7 firefighters (in full gear) in our apartment looking for the cause of the smoke. Seems something in the furnace room (beside our apartment) shorted out and caused the problem. Well, after taking a long lunch, the maintenance man finally came back and fixed the problem (he said). Now everything is working, but the smell is everywhere… and now there’s a horrible noise coming from the furnace room. *sigh* Did I mention that I had to stay in the apartment and wait for him to come back? I breathed those fume (and missed half a day of work) just so he could take his time. Grrrr!

We spent all the rest of yesterday, this morning, and during lunch trying to fan out the smell (we had the windows open and bought more fans to help). While the smell isn’t as bad, it hasn’t gone away. Today we’re probably going to have to buy stuff to clean the carpets, walls, clothes, etc. That smoke was everywhere! Who knows how much this is gonna cost us, I swear, I’m ready to beat someone.

I seriously hope the apartment complex does something to compensate us, I mean, had we not come home for lunch, our cats and our fish could have died (from the smoke, fumes, and heat). This also wasn’t the only issue we’ve had in this place. In the last 12 months we’ve had the following issues:

Leaky pipes under the sink
Dishwasher backing up
Heat not working (Winter)
Air not working (Summer)
Roof (possibly) leaking
Constant power outages
And now the smoke, etc

It seems we’re the only people having problems, the management act like we’re just trying to bug them! The sad thing is, they’re not bad apartments! Just apparently ours is out to get us. Jess is thinking about getting them to move us across the hall, it’s a bigger apartment, and it doesn’t have a direct attachment to the furnace room. I honestly think they owe us either free rent, or that apartment at the rent we’re paying now.

So tonight Jess and I get to buy cleaning supplies, take some things to her parents for safe keeping (so they don’t get too messed up), then start cleaning. Tomorrow after work we get to continue our cleaning binge! Whooo! Just what I wanted to do this week. I’m very glad that we get a three day weekend after Friday, we both need it.

Okay, that’s it for now… if anyone knows how to get the smell of smoke out of a house, please drop a comment.

+ Server room off the port bow! By Jason 23 June 2005 at 3:36 pm 47 views No Comments

So, I’m at work, and it seems that our server room has decided (all by itself, mind you. I’m pretty sure it didn’t check with anyone) that it wants to become an ocean… and the servers think it’s quite a good idea (I think I heard the VPN say that it was a pontoon boat in a previous life). I’m sure you’re wondering how I came to this conclusion, well it’s quite simple, actually. It’s a hot, sunny day, and it hasn’t rained in weeks, and yet the floor of the server room is flooding. The water isn’t coming from the celing or anything, no, it’s actually coming up from the ground. Now, we can’t see where it’s coming from (there is carpet everywhere), but it’s definately coming from below. The big problem with this, is that there isn’t anything below… just cement. So, the water is currently about three feet away from the systems, and is being sucked/blown by a giant fan. Hopefully it helps, but if it doesn’t, please give me a lift back to port… I’ll be the one clinging to the AS/400.
