Would you like some Wine with your cake? 18 June 2008 at 1:50 pm by 2,576 views

Hot on the heels of FireFox 3.0 being released (have you downloaded it yet??), the Wine team has announced they’ve finally hit version 1.0!

The Wine team is proud to announce that Wine 1.0 is now available. This is the first stable release of Wine after 15 years of development and beta testing. Many thanks to everybody who helped us along that long road!

While compatibility is not perfect yet, thousands of applications have been reported to work very well. Check http://appdb.winehq.org to see the details for your favorite applications.

Congrats guys, it was a long time coming!!!  For those who don’t know, in short, Wine allows you to run Windows programs in a Linux environment.  Right from their about page:

Wine is a translation layer (a program loader) capable of running Windows applications on Linux and other POSIX compatible operating systems. Windows programs running in Wine act as native programs would, running without the performance or memory usage penalties of an emulator, with a similar look and feel to other applications on your desktop.

The Wine project started in 1993 as a way to support running Windows 3.1 programs on Linux. Bob Amstadt was the original coordinator, but turned it over fairly early on to Alexandre Julliard, who has run it ever since. Over the years, ports for other Unixes have been added, along with support for Win32 as Win32 applications became popular.

Cool, huh?  Speaking of cool, check out the cake that Microsoft sent over to the FireFox crew:

Mmmm... cake!

Now that’s class!  Those of you may remember that this same thing happened for the launch of FireFox 2:

Mmm... old cake!

Gotta love the sense of humor these guys have!

+ Lookin’ fine in Internet Explorer! By 10 April 2008 at 9:40 am 667 views No Comments

Nothing major to report, site-wise, except that I think I’ve killed the last of the display bugs on the site for IE6 and IE7.  While it wasn’t a huge issue, it was really bothering me that my sidebar/posts didn’t fill the whole page (as they did in FireFox) and the 1px dark line cutting through my post on IE6 was really bugging me, as it’s still a popular browser (and believe it or not, the most common browser used to hit this site according to my stats).

So, for those not wishing to upgrade or leave Internet Explorer behind, you should now be seeing the site in all it’s awesome glory!  Well, as good as it can be while in IE.  ;)   Also, the one bug I found in FireFox has been squashed as well (there was an extra gap in my Photo Gallery page… this is now gone).  If anyone sees any bugs, please let me know!!

+ Testing WordPress 2.5 RC1 By 18 March 2008 at 7:38 am 2,979 views No Comments

I’ve backed up my old WordPress database and decided to get a jump on testing out WordPress 2.5. While the front-end of the site looks pretty much the same, the back-end will take much more getting used to. Check out the details and screenshots here (also for those brave enough, download your own copy!):

WordPress 2.5 Sneak Peak

There are only a few things I’ve noticed that aren’t working. When making a URL, the link box is blank:

WordPress 2.5 RC1

Also you might notice the “Visit Site” overlapping the “Write” button. This blank box also happens when trying to add an image. There’s a chance this is because of my browser, but I’m using FireFox 2.0.0.12 and that’s been pretty good to me. The only other issues come from plugins that haven’t been upgraded to work with 2.5, but there’s nothing to be done about that at the moment. Hopefully these issues will fix themselves by the final version, but beside that I’m impressed with all the good I see here!

+ WordPress updated! By 13 August 2006 at 3:32 pm 917 views No Comments

WordPress has been updated to version 2.0.4 successfully! The new theme is about 90% complete… it works perfectly in FireFox, but is having Internet Explorer issues. Once that’s fixed the site will be updated fully.

+ Here I am, rock you like a hurricane!! By 29 May 2004 at 4:15 pm 268 views No Comments

Well, a quick break in my day, all my relatives are out for the moment so it gives me a second to update the site. It’s the first time in a good 10 years we’ve all been together, so they’re taking every opportunity to go do things together that they can.I made a few changes to the site to make it even more compatible in Mozilla FireFox. I also fixed some more minor flaws that were found in the code (sharp eyes for those that alerted me!). So, once again I hope this fixes all the problems people had on the site.

So, it appears we’re down to the final 18 donators… that’s all that’s left! And to those that wondered, the 100th person will be contacted via e-mail from Fatpipe Webhosting to discuss the free site/space. So don’t worry about that (someone asked how it would work). We’ll contact you based on your e-mail address listed in paypal.

Well, it’s time to go get ready for everyone to come back… as you can tell from the nice pic below, we have quite a few people here (there’s plenty more that you can’t see).

Have a happy Memorial Day, Everyone!!
