Sorry for the downtime! 14 April 2008 at 9:37 am by Jason 163 views

Sorry for the downtime, folks… I have the fine people at Contrast Hosting looking into it for me (they are very prompt at fixing issues, as they rarely come up!).  From what I’ve been told, something is causing the server to overload.  They’re monitoring it and seeing if they can narrow it down, so if the site is running slower than usual over the next day or so, that’s why!  Sorry for the inconvenience!!!

+ CrossLoop By Jason 26 September 2007 at 8:51 am 426 views No Comments

The Problem: You have a client that is computer illiterate and you need to help them configure settings and programs on their PC without spending any money. They are running Windows Vista Home Basic, so they do not have Remote Desktop, nor will most VNC programs (such as TightVNC or UltraVNC) work without major configuring of services and other settings.

The Solution: Have you and your client download and install CrossLoop. CrossLoop is completely free and built off of VNC, but it works on every version of Windows 98 through Vista. Once downloaded and installed, just run the program (make sure you are in the “Join” tab) and have your client click the “Host” tab. Type in the numbers they read off to you and hit “Connect”. They will then be prompted to allow you access to the PC. That’s it. Once they let you in, TightVNC launches through CrossLoop and you are free to help out. Check out the screenshot:

That's the entire program... not bad, huh?

For those wondering, this solution came to me through much searching after being on the phone for 4 hours last night trying to help my Aunt and Uncle with their first ever PC. It’s just good to know for the future. :)

+ On the side By Jason 12 March 2007 at 7:05 am 155 views No Comments

I’ve been busy this last week helping out a friend of mine in the photography business. John needed some help with his company’s website and I hadn’t ever worked on a photo site before, so I was all for it. The site is still a work in progress, but I think it should be done quite soon (just need to get a few more things from his host and we should be good to go). Check it out:

Dulce Productions, Inc.

Not bad, huh? I figure while I’m at it I’ll give him a plug or two. Dulce Productions is an Omaha based company specializing in all types of photography from weddings to nature shots. Now, most of you know I’m an amature photographer myself and his stuff blows mine away (I’m gettin’ there, though!). So, if you’re in need of a good photographer and live in the Midwest (he’s not shy about travel) go ahead and shoot him a message. :)

Okay… enough of the shameless plugging. I need to get back to work!

+ Sick sick sick By Jason 09 January 2006 at 2:06 pm 42 views No Comments

Well, I was out for the count all of yesterday, and am a bit better today. Seems I caught some stomach bug (so says the doc I just got back from)… it’s going around is not fun at all. Anyways, I’m able to get on the PC today, at least. What sucks the most is that I was so ill that I missed seeing Don Irerra (Jess and I had tickets). :( I really was looking forward to it. sigh

Oh, and for those wondering what happened to the site this morning… was a MySQL issue that was fixed as soon as it was reported to my host. :D Thanks for workin’ so quick, Frank!!

Alright, time for me to go get something to drink… and hope I will be eventually able to eat something.

+ DNS Switcheroo! By Jason 28 December 2005 at 9:41 pm 128 views No Comments

Well, I did it! I just switched our company’s hosting from our old host, to our new (which is our good friend Frank, from Contrast Hosting)! I’ve been concerned about this, as our last switch was nothing but problems, but it’s so far so good (go Franky!)!

Okay, well, I just needed to tell someone, just feels better with it all done. :D
