It’s show time, again!! 15 March 2008 at 4:14 am by Jason 91 views

It’s that time again… my company’s bi-annual trade-show is this weekend and it’s my job to check badges (otherwise I wouldn’t be up before 5:00!).  I’m hoping to possibly snag some pics this year, as I’ve missed out every other year, so we’ll have to see what happens.

Sadly on days like this I’m going to miss anything news worthy, so I’m hoping it’ll be a slow news day.  For those wanting something to tide them over… how about this, Obama now says (in a nutshell) that he didn’t realize his pastor was crazy because he never heard sermons like that when he went (link):

Wright was, but is no longer, a member of one of the Obama campaign’s advisory committees. Wright has not been active in campaign, Obama said, and with the pastor retiring from the pulpit Obama said he doesn’t see an issue in his family remaining part of the congregation.

“If I thought that was the repeated tenor of the church then I wouldn’t feel comfortable, but frankly that has not been my experience at Trinity United Church of Christ.

Aparently Wright hasn’t been active in the campaign either.  Really, Barack, who is active in the campaign?  Whenever something like this happens they’re either “not part of my paid staff” or “not active” or something.  Does anyone work for you?  Well, I know who pays you… apparently Tony Rezko has been givin’ you more than you said before:

But in a 90-minute interview with Tribune reporters and editors, Obama disclosed that Rezko had raised more for Obama’s earlier political campaigns than previously known, gathering as much as $250,000 for the first three offices he sought.

Oops!  I’m sure it was “just a mistake” because he was “young and inexperienced”, right guys?  Right?  It was his first day on the job, right?  Can’t blame the new guy!

+ It’s Show Time! By Jason 31 March 2007 at 9:03 pm 66 views No Comments

Today was my first introduction to the trade show that my company puts on. Since I was a “virgin” they decided I should work Badge Check. My job was to only let in those who had badges… not a hard job at all, but 12 hours of standing on concrete doesn’t do anything nice for my feet.

I will say this, the show itself was amazing. I’ve never been to anything like it before. I was told that although we had thousands show up, next time will be bigger. Wow.

After show they put on an open house here at the new offices and invited all attendees to show up, so I decided to come and protect my office aquariums from all the now liquered up patrons (kegs + unlimited martinis downstairs = danger). Nothing happened, thank goodness.

All in all it was great, though I may never walk again…. except when part 2 happens tomorrow.

+ Onward to Dakota By Jason 26 March 2007 at 10:50 am 68 views No Comments

Today I continue my preparations for my trip to North Dakota. My company is opening two new stores there and as part of the IT dept, I need to be there to make sure everything runs correctly.

I haven’t been to ND for about 7 or 8 years now… I wonder if it’s changed much. Oh well, I got much more to do and not much time to do it in. My next post will probably be from Fargo, brrr, I get chills just thinking about it.

+ Programmer/Analyst? By Jason 12 April 2006 at 7:57 am 69 views 2 Comments

So, it seems I found work (temporarily) as a “Programmer/Analyst”… which is odd, as I don’t code. At all. I know pretty much just HTML and BASIC, that’s it. So why are they paying me? Well, I think they were convinced to hire me on by my old bosses.

It seems my old manager and the current president of what is left of my old job are bestest friends with one of the owners at a company here in town. They were looking for some VB .Net and SQL coders. From what I can tell, my bosses went to lunch with the owner, and told him that he needs to hire me.

That day I got an interview, so I went out with my resume to find out what they needed (I had no idea at the time). I sat down with the owner who told me about the company and what they do… the standard stuff. He also mentioned that they’re looking for coders, which I told him I wasn’t. Then he got his IT Manager to come talk with me. He sat down, looked at my resume and asked me about my experience with coding. I told him I had no real coding experience. He sat for a minute, then asked me if I could write If / Then Statements… and I said I could. Well, that was all he needed to hear. He told me all coding is simple and if you know things like If / Then and what a Variable is, you can code in any language. He then pulled out an already prepared job offer that had my old salary on it and told me they were offering me the job. He said not to worry, I could handle it… no real coding.

Cut to Monday… I show up and am told my title is “Programmer/Analyst”, and he sends over another coder to show me around. After our little tour, he starts talking about all the programs he has made in VB6 and in .Net, etc. He then tells me I can feel free to convert all of the VB6 proggys to .Net, etc. I’m then told to install VB6, VB .Net 2003 and VB .Net 2005. I was in shock… I told the Owner and the Manager that I have no experience in coding… why am I here, and why am I being told to code??

I schedule a meeting with the IT Manager and once again explain I’m not a coder and tell him he’d be better off hiring someone else for this project (it’s a 3 month long project, hence it’s a temp job). He looks at me and tells me I’ll be fine, etc etc. For some reason they all want me here to do a job I keep telling them I can’t do. Don’t get me wrong… I’d love to learn how to code, but they’re paying me to help the team make a new backend software with reports to replace what they currently use. Yeah… can’t really do that.

Oh well… I guess if they don’t want to listen, I can’t make them listen. I’m convinced (since I’ve heard from both of my old bosses) that I’m only here because they’re probably worried they’ll be upsetting my old bosses if they let me go. I guess I’ll just let them continue to pay me until they finally listen to me. :s

+ Out of work… By Jason 24 March 2006 at 7:43 pm 109 views 9 Comments

Well, it’s official. I’m out of a job. As of this morning, our company was denied money for operating. Nice. It seems the banks just got greedy, and decided they deserved the money more. Cool, maybe they’ll let me stay with them when I can’t pay my rent.

Anyway, this weekend will be spent sending out resumes and trying not to think about what can happen. If you wanna contribute, you can send me a donation (thanks to those that do), but it’s pretty much all I can ask. If you wanna donate, click below:

– THANKS FOR DONATING! WE NOW HAVE ENOUGH FOR OUR BILLS! –

Thanks again. Also, I’ll try to get my new theme and such finished this weekend… not like I can go out anywhere. :( Oh well… sorry to be such a downer… I’ll be happier next post, I promise!
