R.I.P. Levi the Lobster 28 September 2007 at 7:08 am by Jason 1,165 views

I’m sure most of you remember Levi… he was my pet Blue Crayfish that I got for my birthday back in 2005. In fact, the very first post in my blog on this domain (after the AutoPatcher blog) involved Levi. He lived a pretty good life, he was almost three years old, which from what I can tell online, is the average lifespan for a crayfish like him. It’s really sad that he’s gone… I dunno if we’re going to get another, or if we’re going to wait a while. The first pic below was taken the day we got him… you’ll not he’s about the size of the gravel. In the second pic it was his full-grown size… note how big he is compared to the same gravel. He grew a lot while we had him, and if anyone out there is thinking of a Blue Lobster as a pet, I’d suggest you get one young so you can watch him grow up!

Levi's first pic!

All grown up!

You can see a bunch more of his pics here in my photo gallery… he will be missed, such an interesting creature. :( For those wondering, he died from what appeared to be old age. Over the past 3 months he has slowed down… not moving around as much and 2 days ago he kind of went and layed in a corner of the tank. He was still alive yesterday, he moved his claws at me when I tapped him, but today he was still… I figure as far as deaths go, it was a pretty peaceful one.

+ Snails are back! By Jason 16 January 2006 at 8:38 am 233 views 1 Comment

Well, I did another water change in the tank yesterday (I wonder how many of you saw that?) and I decided it was safe enough to re-add the snails to the tank (after risking my fingers to pull them from the lobster tank). They have mainly been sticking to the back wall (as it’s got a bit of algae on it), but you may see them slimin’ around.

For those wondering, we have two snails in there… one Ivory Snail (who has a messed up shell, it had been damaged when we got him and it healed kinda weird), and one large Colombian Ram’s Horn snail. We’ve had both for awhile, but had them put in the Lobster tank a couple months ago while I treated the tank for Ich.

That’s all for now… stay tuned for more updates later!

+ Life update! By Jason 08 December 2005 at 10:42 am 439 views 1 Comment

Well, it’s only two weeks till Jess and I take off to go to my parent’s house for the holidays! I sure hope the weather will be better than it has been lately.

Let’s see, what else? I was forced into taking a math class this semester… ugh. I hate teh math classes! Also, my mom is recovering from open chest surgery, she just got back home yesterday, so hopefully she’ll be feeling better by the time Jess and I get there.

Also, we changed our fish setup (and got two more fish)! We now have 6 fish tanks in our apartment! We have:

1 28 Gallon tank – containing a school of 4 Neon Tetras, a school of 6 Glo-Lite Tetras, 3 Glo-Fish™, 1 Dalmation Lyretail Molly, 1 Black Sailfin Molly, 2 Albino Cories, 1 Oto, and Ugly the Colombian Ramshorn Snail

1 10 Gallon tank – containing Levi the Lobster (he’s really a blue crayfish), and a yet unnamed Ivory Snail.

1 1 Gallon tank – containing Potato, our Red/Purple Veiltail Betta

1 1 Gallon tank – containing Cotton Candy, our Pink/Blue Veiltail Betta

1 1 Gallon tank – containing NoName*, our Green/Blue Veiltail Betta

1 1 Gallon tank – containing Grumpy Gus, our Red/White Crowntail Betta

I swear, in a years time we’ll have enough fish to call the apartment an aquarium and charge an entry fee. lmao

Okay, well that’s all the news for now! Catch ya on the flipside. ;)

*NoName isn’t his name, he’s a rescue fish and is very sick, if he lives, he’ll get a name.

+ Happy birthday to you! By Jason 01 August 2005 at 3:11 pm 249 views No Comments

Today is our kitten Mishka’s birthday! Today she turns one year old (which is 24 in human years… oddly enough that’s how old I am!) and Jess plans on giving her tuna and sweet stuff for her present. The cat loves sweet things, melon, strawberries, non-dairy frosting, etc… you have it, she wants it. You can tell me a hundred times that cats don’t taste sweet, but she lives with me, and she will always prove you wrong. Here’s an older picture of her… will update with a new one later:

Besides that, nothing too new. Jess quit her job and has a bunch of interviews, so I wish her well. Also, the fish tank had an issue and I spent part of saturday fighting with a lobster and digging through gravel to fix it. Ugh. Also, I gave myself a nasty little burn when accidentally touching the aquarium heater. Grrr. Also in the last week I finally fixed my computer! It seems that the rear 120mm case fan was causing all my issues. Every BSOD, all the heat issues, etc. The fan would spin, quite fast, but it seems it was actually generating heat, instead of removing it. When I touched it, it actually burnt my finger! Very odd. Well, $10.00 later I have a new fan, and a nice cool running system (it runs about 43 degrees now, instead of the 60+ it was running before). While we’re on the “PC talk”, I got Vista installed and running on my system. While I get plenty of BSODs and the like, it’s not a bad OS, and I really like when Microsoft is going with it! :)

Let’s see, what else? I’ve been working on a lot of new things for Neowin on my spare time, although no one will see it for awhile. What is it? Not tellin’! Shhhh! It’s a secret! All I can say is, you’ll be happy when you see it. :)

Okay, that’s it for now… enjoy the rest of your Monday!

+ The Amazing Escaping Lobster By Jason 05 July 2005 at 8:07 am 164 views No Comments

Just a quick note this morning, Levi decided yesterday that he was going to escape his tank. He managed to climb up the air tubing, to the heater, to the filter… but he just couldn’t quite get to the top (he was about half an inch away). So using my awesome cardboard and tape skills, I fashioned a “Lobster Containment Unit”, though to the layman, it might just look like I taped cardboard over the little filter opening. Either way, I believe I’ve stopped any future escape attempts! :)
