As I’ve been re-designing the site, I’ve had to make some changes to the actual data/setting of the live blog so that it flows over nicer. If you see anything odd, it’s probably just me changing settings. Among other things, I’ve now imported my old Archive site over to the current database so I can stop maintaining two blogs. I’ve also cleaned up my blogroll/webroll/etc and will continue to make changes over the next couple weeks.
The design itself is probably about 85% completed… check out this side-by-side:

I don’t know about you, but I’d spend a lot more time browsing the site on the right versus the site on the left (I sized them the same, but the design on the left has an 800px width while the one on the right has a 1024px width). The new design also validates XHTML 1.1 (so far, so good), but to keep it that way I will have to go back and edit my old posts to change how I had been posting pictures. Not too major, but kind of bothersome.
Well, that’s all I have about this today… just figured people might get confused as I’m swapping things around and I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that the site is still changin’!
Update1 – Okay, so it seems to have some troubles with certain buttons on my site, as well as with Gmail chat. From what I can tell, Gmail is set to the “Older Version” mode, with no way to change back. Also, no javascript buttons/rollovers seem to work for me. Interesting.
Update 2 – It appears to have to do with Javascript, although I don’t know what yet (I’ll have a post when I do). I’m currently on the latest version (JRE 1.6.0_05-b13) and it says it’s enabled. Oddly when using the “Emulate IE7″ mode, it causes everything rendered in IE8 to work again, although Gmail looks a bit funky now (see image below). Very odd…

Update 3 – Installed on my Vista system and the problem remains. I’ve now decided that it’s not a problem with Javascript, but perhaps just an issue in how Internet Explorer 8 renders certain code (other sites with issues don’t use Javascript). Now, the weird thing… my new updated design passes both the “Valid CSS” check and the “Valid XHTML 1.1 Strict” test… and it is completely broken in IE8. I’m going to hope that there is just a problem with the program, and not something perhaps worse (web designers having to re-design sites for IE6 and IE7 know what I mean). Screenshots below. Let’s hope my next IE post is good news!

I just finished designing a website for my co-worker’s side-business (photography)… check it out:
http://www.dulceinc.com
The whole thing validates XHTML 1.0 Strict (nice!) and the only issues I can find with it so far (which I’ll be working on) are:
- CSS issues in Safari.
- CSS issues in Opera.
- Calender doesn’t popup in IE due to a paragraph tag.
That’s not too shabby for a week’s worth of work, methinks! The next step is re-coding his MySpace page to match the rest of the site (if you see his gallery, that’s actually my custom coding of PixelPost). Anyway, it was fun and now I’m feeling all creative! I wonder what I should do next?
