Your procedure works fine for removing these formatting marks for emails you are wotking in, but how do you remove them pemanently. By the way, I have Outlook 2007, but there is no office button.

Thanks. I knew it was something to do with formatting but could not figure out how to navigate to it with all those options. I pressed some combination on some keys to set this off.
