Today on “Cooking with Flish”, we’re going to give you our recipe for the world’s best fried chicken, with an awesome honey mustard sauce. We like to call this meal, Fried Chicken ala Flish.
First, here’s a list of the ingredients you will need:
Fried Chicken
3 skinless, boneless, defrosted chicken breasts
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried pesto (optional)
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
Your choice of oil for frying
Honey Mustard Sauce
1/2 Tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 Tablespoon prepared Yellow Mustard
1 Tablespoon Honey
1/4 Cup Mayonaise
Okay! Time to cook!
Step 1. Mix milk and tablespoon of lemon juice and set aside for 5 minutes (this will cause the milk to sour, yes, this is what we want… yes, it tastes good when it’s all done).
Step 2. Mix the egg, 1 and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (the other 1/2 is saved for later), and milk mixture together (mix it real good, now).
Step 3. Take a fork and poke a bunch of holes in the chicken… this helps tenderize it, trust me.
Step 4. Place the chicken into a large resealable plastic bag, and dump in our egg/milk concoction. Congrats! You’ve made a marinade. Now, seal up the bag, and toss it in the fridge for about an hour or two.
Step 5. While you’re marinating the chicken, we’ll make the honey mustard sauce (why not, it’s not like you’re doing anything else). Get a microwave safe bowl, and put in the 1 Tablespoon of honey. Microwave it on high for 5 seconds (this should soften it some).
Step 6. Now take the spices (pepper, paprika), lemon juice, and mustard, and mix it all good and well with the honey (we don’t want any chuncks… nice and smooth).
Step 7. Now, add in the 1/4 cup of mayo and stir until it’s all blended and smooth. When it’s done, cover it with some plastic wrap, and toss it in the fridge till you’re ready to eat.
Step 8. Get down your frier (or if you’re doing this in a frying pan… get your pan) and fill it with oil. Don’t turn it on till about 5 - 10 min before you start cooking. Don’t need a grease fire to break out.
Step 9. Get out another plastic bag (or if you have a large tupperware bowl with a lid, that will work even better). We’re going to make the coating! Yay! Place the following ingredients into the bag/bowl and mix till it looks all jumbled together: Flour, Bread crumbs, salt, Baking powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, leftover garlic powder (should be about 1/2 teaspoon), red pepper, and pesto (if you have it).
Step 10. Grab out your chicken from the fridge… it’s battering time!
Drain out the marinade (the milk stuff) and grab your chicken. Toss it into the bag/bowl with the flour mixture in it, and shake it for about 3 - 5 minutes (till it’s all good and coated). Set it down, heat up your oil (about 360 Degrees F is what you’re shooting for).
Step 11. When the oil is all heated up, grab your chicken, and start frying!
If you’re using a fryer, it should take only about 10 - 12 minutes to cook it all. Make sure and cut a piece open and make sure it’s not pink before eating it (I’m not going down just because you didn’t check).
Step 12. Eat! Grab out the Honey mustard and dip the chicken in it (or put it on top, or however you eat). Be amazed at how awesome it all tastes.
Step 13. Come back to this blog and post about how I gave you the recipe to the greatest fried chicken ever!
